Cavalier Centre Access Statement

The Cavalier Centre is a purpose-built accessible equestrian facility with meeting rooms.
The Centre comprises:

  • Office space
  • 30 x 70 indoor arena
  • 30 x 40 outdoor arena
  • Carriage driving track
  • Therapy/ informal room
  • Rider platform lift
  • Mechanical horse with ceiling mounted hoist
  • Conference room
  • Viewing gallery
  • Kitchen area
  • Large accessible toilet with adult changing bed and shower
  • Male and female toilets
  • Grazing and corrals

Getting here

Approached via the A4169, nearest town in Much Wenlock

By car

Turn off the main road down a steep slope on to a single-track road with regular passing points on either side. The road dips down and then up and the Centre is on the left beyond Bradley Farm.

Parking: Seven blue badge holder parking spaces immediately outside the main entrance. Gently sloping Tarmacadam surface to Centre entrance

Level parking for up to 40 cars. Gravelled surface gently sloping to Centre entrance

Train

The nearest train station is Telford Central which is a 20 minute taxi ride from the Centre

Bus

No bus route passes the Centre. The nearest bus stop is in Much Wenlock

On foot

25 minute walk along mostly level footpath from Much Wenlock to the Centre

Green Room

with standard height table, plastic armchairs and a therapy bed

Communal kitchen

79 cm wide doorway push door to communal kitchen with standard height units, sink, kettle and microwave, chairs with arms. Window and LED ambient light

Corridor widens to 360cm

Toilets and changing facilities

Accessible toilet: 79 cm wide push door to large room with accessible toilet with adult changing bed, shower, pedestal basin, toilet, mirror, wall mounted hand dryer. Towels are available

Female toilets: 79cm wide doorway to two cubicles, two basins and wall mounted hand dryer

Male toilets: 79cm wide doorway to one cubicle, two urinals, two basins and wall mounted hand dryer

Hydraulic platform rider lift

90cm gates leading to 145 x 230 cm ground level platform

Mechanical horse simulator

Furthest room along corridor houses the 15 hh mechanical horse. Fixed steps to mount horse or ceiling hoist. Evenly lit by windows and LED. Emergency exit leading to driving track.

Arena

94 cm doorway to 20 cm step down from floor level to soft sand and silicone arena riding surface. Four fire exists from the arena to outside and three into main building

First Floor

Entrance lobby to staircase with handrail on both sides, 18 steps (in two flights) with landing halfway. Grey, low pile carpeted steps with metal step edging.

Upstairs area is entirely carpeted in low pile grey carpet.

Lobby area at the top of the stairs with door to passenger lift.

Through 79 cm width doors

Conference room

Rectangular room with windows to view indoor arena. Upholstered conference chairs and standard height tables. Windows on two sides, overlooking indoor arena or out towards neighbouring barns and grazing. Large projector screen, ceiling mounted projector, hand help mics, sound system.

Office space

low ceiling height with small windows either side overlooking indoor arena or barns and grazing

Outside

Stable block

Left out of entrance door to tarmacadam/ concrete access to five stables arranged along 147cm width corridor. Supervised entry only

Carriage driving track

Compacted gravel surface running in a figure of eight around Centre past corrals and grazing paddocks and outdoor arena with two large gates with catch closures. Gradient to top of track

Outdoor arena

30 x 40 partially flood lit fenced arena with all-weather fibre surface.

Corrals

Grazing and corrals surrounded by post and rail fencing plus Horserail and electric fencing.

General

No dogs, assistance dogs only. A bowl of water can be provided.

Spaces are usually quiet but sound system may be used occasionally e.g. for special events

Caution should be exercised around the horses. No loud noises or sudden movements. No hand feeding. All contact should be supervised by Cavalier Centre staff or authorised volunteers.

No smoking anywhere on site
