Julia’s Story
The Cavalier Centre very much relies upon the support of volunteers but, speaking as a volunteer, I cannot put into words how rewarding I find the time that I spend there is. Becoming a volunteer there has been a decision that I do not regret for one minute and I hope to continue my work there for many years to come.
Julia began volunteering at the Cavalier Centre shortly after it opened in 2019. Currently undertaking a career change, Julia explains how important volunteering at the Centre is to her.
“Having left a fulltime corporate career to return to fulltime studying it gave me some additional time and the opportunity to participate in some volunteering locally. I live in Telford, Shropshire with my husband Ilija and our little rescue cat Ethel. I have an absolute love for animals, and I rode a little when I was younger, therefore the Cavalier Centre looked like the perfect volunteering opportunity when it came along.
It was a chance opportunity having visited Much Wenlock for a weekend walk and I saw the Cavalier Centre sign. Upon further investigation it was at the same time the Centre was appealing for new volunteers via their Facebook page. The timing was perfect for me and I didn’t hesitate to apply. The combination of working with the ponies, assisting in the sessions and being in the beautiful surroundings that the centre sits were the perfect combination.
Returning to studying after almost 20 years of working fulltime has been a huge adjustment. Volunteering at the Cavalier Centre has been the perfect stress buster and I find it immensely rewarding to be there. Working with the ponies and being in the countryside is incredibly therapeutic and I feel absolute joy to see the riders thrive in their sessions. I have learnt so much and feel extremely well supported by both the staff and other volunteers.
